MOVI LED not blinking

posted May 12, 2016 16:03:15 by ShiEn
Hi, initially when turned on, my MOVI would mention it was booting and the keyword, however would not respond when keyword was said.

May have then removed the SD while power was on (12v 2amps to Arduino plug)

I tried formatting the SD card which had weird partitions, of 4gb, split into main readable drive with 16mb, 2.96 hidden partition, and 2 more smaller partitions. Deleted the 2.96gb partition in attempt to reformat the partitions however could not.

Tried new blank 4gb SD card, however the MOVI LED wouldnt turn on/blink when powered after blank SD was inserted.

Is there any way to reset it back to factory settings? Have tried long press on the reset button with no avail.
Any advice would be helpful!!

The SDcard shipped with MOVI contains all the software and logic that makes MOVI work. Formatting the SDcard leaves MOVI without any firmware. More importantly, the SD-card contains board-specific data, i.e. I cannot just provide you with a link to a 4GB file to download the content of the card.

Unless you created a backup of the SDcard you cannot restore this data easily. Please contact us through the contact form so we can discuss how to replace your board.

Hi,

I have similar issues but I didn't touch the SD Card.

LED blinking with constant frequency : If MOVI’s LED is blinking with constant
frequency, there is a serious issue with the SD-Card e.g., MOVI’s file system check failed
permanently.

In this case what should we do. Please advise.

Andy,

Indeed, that's not the most happy news.
Please connect a speaker and listen if there are any error messages. In order to get to the blinking LED you should at least hear "MOVI booting..." and then you should hopefully hear a message telling you the cause of the blinking LED.

With that, it will be easier for me to give advise on the next steps.

Thank you,
Gerald

You are probably eligible for a board exchange. Please contact us through the "contact us" button for details on the logistics.

Hi Gerald,

I send the board previously to you all and I got it back. The LED on the Movi doesn't light up.
Please advise.

Hi Gerald,

is it possible that the voltage of the battery is achieve but the current is insufficient to power the board?

Andy,

I am sorry you keep having problems.

Before we send boards back, we make sure we test them. So it was definitely working before we sent it back to you.

I agree with you that you should check the voltage and also the current that your power supply can provide. It is very possible that your power supply does not provide enough current. It can also be helpful to test everything without any other connections, i.e. mount MOVI on the Arduino, power the Arduino using the external power supply. Do not connect anything else, including USB. MOVI's light should definitely go on after a second or two. If not, make sure the Arduino works by itself and then try a power supply wich can supply more current.
